 KinderMath: Counting By 10's
To begin the lesson, the kids will hear the story Toasty Toes by Michael Dahl to focus on counting by 10’s. Next, the kids will have time to explore counting to 100 by 10’s in a hands-on way. They will count out 10 objects onto a ten frame, then transfer the ten frame to a small paper plate. They will continue counting out the 10 sets of objects until all 10 paper plates are filled. They will then go back through and count the plates by 10’s to 100.

Project: The kids are making the bear from this story today.

They will walk around the classroom and take inventory of the items listed on the sheet. The kids will continue to work with counting by 5’s and using tallies to do so. Then using popsicle sticks, they will create sets of tally marks to 20.   KinderMath: Count By 5's Part 1
We will begin the lesson by reading Lots of Ladybugs by Michael Dahl to focus on counting by 5’s. It’s important that the kids know and understand that when we are counting by 5’s, we are simply skipping over given numbers to get to the final amount quickly. To help students understand, I will draw a horizontal number line with the 5, 10, 15, and 20 in an alternate color. For the next activity, each pair will need a baggie with 20 items and 4 blank five frames. They will work with their partner to place the items within the 5 frames until all five are filled then count the five filled frames by 5’s.
Dental Health Today the kids will hear a story about how toothpaste is made. After the story, they will do an interactive activity where they brush away plaque (dry erase marker) on teeth (inside a protective sleeve). A new toothbrush and sample toothpaste for your child will be in the Wednesday envelope.

Dental Health The kids will meet Timmy & Terry Tooth today. These puppets will teach the kids about healthy/unhealthy foods that affect our teeth. There is a little story to go along with the puppets that the kids will make and bring home today. Read the story again using the puppets!
KinderMath: Count By 2's Part 2

We will start the lesson by reading the story, Eggs and Legs by Michael Dahl which is about counting by 2's and pairs of objects. The students will use 10 pairs of color cubes (2 red, 2 yellow, etc.) and a set of count by 2's number cards. Partners will first make the pairs from the snap cubes. They will then lay out their snap cubes with space between each set of cubes. Next, they will a lay out the number cards under each set to match and lastly, go back through to practice counting the cubes by 2's.

 KinderMath: Numbers to 100
*We begin a new unit today called Numbers to 100 with today's lesson focusing on counting by 2's.

A stack of 20 unmatched socks will be placed in the middle of our circle. "How many socks do I have? Can I know without counting? How many socks do you need to put on your shoes? When we have two of something we call this a pair or a match." After making the 10 sets of pairs, we will go back and count the socks one-by-one. "Remember Mathematicians always want to get to an answer the most efficient way possible! I will count them by 2’s. When we count by 2’s, we are skip-counting."  I will show the kids how to “whisper” count to 20 by whispering the skipped number and “shouting” the numbers counted by 2’s. For example, 1 (whisper), 2 (shout), 3 (whisper), 4 (shout), etc.

Zero the Hero visits today...Day 90!

Dental Health
First I will read, I Know Why I Brush My Teeth by Kate Rowan and discuss the importance of having a clean mouth. Next, the kids will become 'teeth' and stand close together so I can 'floss' between them with a piece of yarn.
