Language Arts: Using the Reader's Theater script, Baby Animals, we will be working on building fluency and retelling.

 Writer's Workshop: I like baby_________.
There are many adorable baby animals in the story above and writing our favorite adds to the literary element.
Again, the children will finish the sentence with their phonetic writing. This is in their writing journal.

Using straws, the children will receive a random group and put them in order from shortest to tallest.

The children will be using yarn to determine whether objects will be longer/short/same as the yarn. We are stressing that it's okay to not always be right when estimating. The children will be working with a partner to find items in our classroom that will fit the categories.

The kids are measuring various objects in our classroom against a craft stick to determine if the object is shorter, longer/taller, or the same.
: Watch for it to come home today...Due Monday.

Art: We officially begin 'Art' today as Fridays will be our 'Art' day. Today's lesson is on 'Line' and the concepts presented are:
~There are many different kinds of lines.
~Line has different characteristics (thick/thin, straight/curved, long/short, ragged, wiry, curly, broken, jagged, smooth, etc. )

~A line is the path created by a moving point. It can vary in width, direction, and length.
We will be looking for 'line' in paintings by Van Gogh, Klee, and Johnson. The children will be guided to create a caterpillar with a variety of lines. 


 ~Permission slips for the St. Tim's Thanksgiving dance are due Monday, November 24. Again, Kindergarten students must have a parent in attendance with them.

Phonological Awareness: Segmenting Initial Sounds
Each child has a short and long strip of paper. I say a word, such as fort. They will push the short piece with their left hand as I say /f/ and the long piece with their right hand as I say /ort/. When the pieces are together, they say fort.
Language Arts: Compare and Contrast Concepts Using a Venn Diagram

Math: Falling for Fewer and More Book
The best way to explain this is to have you look at the book your child creates with them tonight. Have your child try to read it to you as this will reinforce the concept of fewer/more. If you read the book with your child, email me and I will give them a special prize!

 The kids will also be working on the app, Splash Math with the IPads.

~Mr. Staloch (4th grade teacher) and myself will be exchanging roles for an hour today. The intent is to get a small taste of  teaching in a different grade level. He will be with the kids from 8:20-9:20 this morning.
