Our shining star this week is Brayden!
Word Family: -ake
 Popcorn Word: their
 Consonant Blend: The children are meeting the Blend Friends who will help them identify the first and second letter sounds in blends. These are wooden spoons transformed into puppets. Each puppet represents their own sound and when put together, they produce one sound.
Today's Blend: bl
  Language Arts: Introduce the Comprehension Strategy-Compare & Contrast 
The kids will identify comparisons and contrasts in photographs and text.

 Writer's Workshop: The children will be writing their opinion (like/dislike) about a story chosen from their browsing box. They will also add the reason why.
 Daily 5!
New Word Work: In anticipation of Easter, the kids open a plastic egg to find 3 letters that build a CVC word. They will build it, read it, and write it.
Math: 3-D Shapes
We continue to our work with 2/3-D shapes. The kids are learning that 2-D shapes are flat and 3-D shapes are solid. Today's work involves making 2-D shapes with Geobands/Geoboards and 3-D shapes with Geoblocks. Look for a picture of these activities in tomorrow's post.
 Smart Room: The kids will learn about the new spring stations today. Picture highlights will begin tomorrow.
*We enjoyed celebrating Kenny's summer birthday the last day before spring break...

 Smart Room: It's our the last day of the leprechaun theme. When we return from Spring Break, it will be transformed into a spring theme.
We've been invited to see Frozen with Mrs. Jost's class this afternoon! The children will receive movie theater popcorn and a juice box too.

Writer's Workshop: Cut/reassemble/glue a spring sentence. The children will copy the sentence as well.
Handwriting: Words & Sentences with letter l.
 Math: Fill the Hexagons: Day 2 
The goal of this activity is to fill hexagon shapes with a variety of shapes that will make a hexagon.
Their work focuses on:
~Finding combinations that fill an area.
~Exploring relationships among pattern block shapes.

Time For Kids: Hello, Spring!
Project: We can't wait to see (or at least I can't...)all the grass starting to wake up so we'll get a head start by making a crown of grass.

Language Arts: Fluency Skills-Phrasing/High Frequency Word Phrases
The children will practice using effective phrasing with the rhyme Little Jack Horner.
~Phrases are groups of words.
~Phrases contain two or more words.
~We read all the words together.
~Reading a phrase should sound like talking.
~Think about what the words in the phrase mean when they are together.
**Homework: Have your child read Little Jack Horner for/with you using effective phrasing. Return tomorrow with your signature for your child to receive a shamrock stamp.
