   Writer's Workshop: More Labeling
I will continue to model how to label pictures with the first sound by using the wordless book, A Ball for Daisy. Click here to view. Yesterday, I saw many kiddos who were attempting and were successful at writing down the first sound they heard!

  Kindermath: All About the Numbers 0-10

After hearing the story Ten Black Dots, the children will choose any number (1-10) of black dots to create a picture. If you have not heard of this story, click here to view.
          Music Today

Writer's Workshop: What is a Label?
It's time to start labeling our illustrations. You may assume that the children will be taught to stretch out the word and write the sounds they hear. While that's true, most children aren't there yet so we begin by just labeling the pictures with the first letter. (A few children who are ready to add more sounds will be encouraged to do so.)

For instance, if a house is drawn, they would put an H by it or if a flower is drawn, an F.

Kindergarten writing is definitely a step by step process.
Literacy Jobs
Literacy Jobs continue to go really well. It takes time to establish the routine so meaningful, independent work becomes the norm. This frees up myself to meet with individual students or small groups at that time.

  Kindermath: Read and Write 9-10
Partners will each have their own ten frame to fill according to the number they roll on the dot cube. Both will fill the frame with that number of cubes and compare with one another of who has more or who has less. Next, each child has a deck of 1-10 ten frame cards to pick from and write the corresponding number. 

The kids will work on Sequence of Events in How to Carve a Pumpkin.
