Using the poster "Friends", the children will be taught that...
~A character is a person, an animal, or a thing in literature.
~Examining a character's actions, feelings, thoughts, and words and what others say and think about him or her allows readers to make inferences about the character.
~Understanding characters in a story helps readers better understand the story.

We start Writer's Workshop today! Our first lesson is called Illustrators? Yes!
I will introduce what Writer's Workshop is and what the role of authors/illustrators are. Each day, the Writer's Workshop model is mini-lesson, independent work, sharing. After I model an illustration, I will send the children off to make an illustration of their own.
This lesson was scheduled for last Friday but we will do it today instead.
