Math: Solids/3D Shapes
New Concepts: I have something new for your to look at
today. Take the items out of your bag and explore them for a bit.(give
them a few minutes to look at them) Now imagine you are a bird. Look at
them from above what to do you see? Can you see any shapes? (circle?
Square?) Now imagine you are a bug. What are you noticing? (They are
not flat). Right! These are called solids or 3D shapes.
Whole Group Explore: We are going to go on a shape hunt. You and
your partner will take a clip board and see if you can find some of these shapes in the room.
Student Application:
Students will practice numeral formation 1-5.
Students will match the 3D shape with the object.
SMART Room: Scissor Walking

Math: Circle & Hexagon

New Concepts: We have already talked about triangles, rectangles, and
squares, but today I want to talk to you about two more shapes. Show the
students a hexagon and a circle. How are these the same? (they both
sort-of look round). How are they different? (one has straight sides and
one does not). If you were going to have a race car, which one would
your want as a tire? (circle) A circle has a curved shape with no straight
lines. A hexagon has 6 straight lines and no curved lines.
Whole Group Explore: Hand a set of shapes to each pair of students.
Hand shapes to each student and call on them to help you sort the shapes.
Student Application:
Students will practice numeral formation 3.

Students will color and count the hexagons and circles.

SMART Room: Crazy Playdough Hair
The kids will roll the playdough into pieces to add the finishing touch to these silly faces.

We begin focusing on the sight word 'a' today. Each week, two words will be introduced and worked with. We call them "Popcorn Words" because they 'pop' up everywhere in reading!
Reading Comprehension: Using the book What Are Some Rules at Home? the kids will:
~Build academic vocabulary and concepts related to rules.
~Ask questions about a text.
~Identify main idea and supporting details.
~Identify and discuss nonfiction text features (table of contents).

SMART Room: We now have a fall/October theme set up in the SMART Room.
Math: 2D Shapes/Positional Words (Behind, Above, Next To, etc.) & Writing #5
Today we are going to play Simon Says. You will need to listen to my clues and follow along. I am going to put my pencil (crayon box, eraser…) in front of me. Simon says put your pencil on the carpet in front of you. Simon says pick up the shape that has 4 sides and all the sides are the same length. Simon says place that shape above your pencil. Continue placing items around the pencil using positional words. Now I am going to play this again, but this time I am going to be tricky. I am going to hide what I am doing so you can’t see it.
Whole Group Explore: Now you are going to play a game with your partner. You will get back to back with your partner and play match it! Someone will go first and tell their partner something like..."Put your circle next to the square. Match it!". You can then see if you both have your shapes the same.
~Today is Day 20...Zero the Hero will visit!
