 Writer's Workshop: The children continue to work on adding details to their writing.

Handwriting: lowercase v and w...We are working on paying careful attention to where to write letters between lines.

Math: Match Me Plus 1
New Concept: Today I want to talk about counting numbers.  A while back we played a game called Match Me. We counted out some cubes on our mat and asked our partners to “Match me”. Then our partners matched the same number of cubes on the other side of our mats.  Today I want to play “Match me plus 1.”  Let me show you.  
Take the student math cards from the previous lesson.  Select one card and build it on one side of the mat.  Then build another set that is 1 more on the other side of the mat.  Use the math talk card to describe your sets. 
Whole Group Explore: Today you will play “Match me plus 1” with your partner.  Be sure you use your math talk cards to describe the sets you build.    
Student Application: Students will draw flowers to answer the prompt at the top of the page.  

Students will write their numbers from 0-15.

Reader's Wokshop: The kids are learning how to make inferences using what they see in pictures and read in text. They will learn to comprehend the meaning in text by making connections to themselves with the pictures and words.


 Writer's Workshop: We continue to work on writing more thoughts on paper.

 Math: Numbers +1
New Concept: Today I want to show you a game. First, I want to lay my cards out in order. I will start with 1 and I will keep counting on 1 more until I get to ten.  Now, close your eyes while I sneak one of these numbers away and put it behind my back.   Now open them!  Ask them questions such as, “How did you figure that out?” Repeat this a few times. Reinforce that you are able to figure out the missing number by knowing that 5 is one more than 4 or 5 is one less than 6. Next, turn the cards over until only the dots are showing. Repeat the activity.   
Whole Group Explore: Today you will play the same game that I just showed you.   First you will lay the cards out in order. Your partner will hide their eyes, then guess which number is missing.    
Student Application: You will practice counting and adding on one more.  
Then you will write your numbers from 0 - 15.

 Phonics: We are beginning to learn about the digraph "th" today. Watch for a letter coming home today that explains who the "H Brothers" are. The letter explains the fun way we introduce th, ch, sh, and wh.
 A storybook reader is scheduled for 9:30 to read One Winter's Day.

The kids will:~Make inferences using what they see in pictures and read in text.~Use clues in the text along with what you know to make inferences.~Make connections with pictures and text.

 Math:  We begin work with Numbers +1 and Numbers -1 today. The kids will help make number cards to 10 that will be used throughout the upcoming lessons.

~The kids are excited to have lunch in our classroom today. I have special placemats and the lights will be dimmed to create a very special atmosphere for all the work they did over break!
 **We have a Doctor's Office play area in our classroom. Two doctors and two patients can play in the area at one time. A waiting area accommodates two other eager patients!

 Reader's Workshop: Introduce the comprehension strategy: Make Inferences

• Readers make inferences using clues in text and pictures and what they know to figure out what an author does not state directly.
• Making inferences helps readers make sense of a text and build interest as they read.
• Making inferences encourages readers to think about the message an author is communicating.

 Writer's Workshop: We will discuss what resolutions are and write about one resolution we want for school.

Math: We are finishing up our work on whole/part-part by making a class book. The children will be put in partners and given a story problem to work on for a page in the book. This will be displayed at conferences later this month.
Music Today

DAILY 5...We have many new literacy stations now available for Word Work and Work on Writing.
 Smart Room: The Smart Room is being changed into a snowman and winter theme.
