I want you to see what the lesson delivery looks like from now on. I will copy what comes from the teacher manual so you get a better idea of what is involved in a lesson.

“Boys and girls, I thought I would start with my model story first today, but I don’t know what to write about.” (Cross your arms and act dramatic that you just can’t think of a story.) “Wait! I remember that in the book, What Do Authors Do?, the authors wrote about something that has happened in their lives. I guess I could write about something that has happened to me! Oh, maybe I can write about a trip my husband and I took to the mountains, but I don’t know how to draw mountains.” (Act deterred and upset.) “Well, I guess I can try my best and not worry about mistakes because even authors make mistakes!”
“Thank you for your help. Now it’s time to write my words. I want to write this, ‘One day my husband and I took a long drive and it started to rain. After the rain we saw a pretty rainbow.’ Ugh! I don’t know how to write that! Maybe I can write, ‘I see the rain and rainbow.’ Where could I look in the room to help me write the words, ‘I see the’? Oh,

yes, I can use the sight word chart! Uh oh! Now I need to write the word ‘rain.’ I’m not sure what letters start the word ‘rain’? What can I use to help? Yes, theABC chart can help me find the sounds I need! Thank you so much for your help! Now it’s time for you to write your story! You won’t have to worry about being perfect because even authors make mistakes. When we come to a sight word, where can we look for help? What if we need a sound in a word? Yes, we can use the ABC chart. Alright, it’s your turn to write! Let’s go!”

 Math: About 17: Show It

Today students will show their mastery of teen numbers through a variety ways. To start with, students will work with their partners to fill the Teen Number Ten Frame board to represent their teen number. Start by showing the number 17. Students will then fill their ten frame board to match. Say, “Ten and 7 make 17!” Continue with numbers 11-17.

• Students will then move on to show their mastery of numbers 11-17 using the Hide Ten cards. Students will show their partner a hide ten card set and their partner will state what they see.

“10 and 5, ten five, 15!”

• Students will also be using the teen number “and some” cards to quiz their partners mastery with teen numbers. Students will flash the “and some” cards and have their partners state the teen number they see. 

  “17, ten and 7 makes 17!”

We will use the following poster about the boy who has a red ball and is playing by himself. We will work on solving the problem as to how he can ask others to play.

 Writer's Workshop: The children will be writing a 'guided thank-you' to some anonymous donors who purchased a light table and activity boxes for our classroom.

It is vital when learning teen numbers that the kids know they are teen numbers for one reason only...they all contain ONE group of ten. We want to make sure they do not think teen numbers are a '1 and a 2'. A '1 and 2' make 3 and not 12. They should know and be able to explain that 10 and 2 make twelve not 1 and 2.
