Using the story, Rainbow Fish, the kids will ask/answer simple recall questions as well as review unknown vocabulary (glide, shimmer, shocked, admire, wise).

**Our math time is scheduled for an hour or more each day.
Each lesson contains six components for full, hands-on, purposeful and meaningful engagement.

The children are continuing to learn about the calendar routine and how to enter the data into their 'laptops' (calendar books) that coincide with the slides on the Smartboard. 
Each Wednesday, the kids will spend their library time with Mrs. Thomas. Books will be due back on the following Tuesday but can be sent back earlier if you are finished with it. Our library time is from 8:50-9:20.

KinderLiteracy
KinderLiteracy is the name of our reading program we use in kindergarten at our school. It digs deep into texts to help build understanding and meaning through weekly themes that support comprehension, essential questions, and story elements. 
This week's theme is Sharing and the focused text is: Rainbow Fish by: Marcus Pfister.
Today, the children will hear the story for enjoyment and build an interest in the topic and expand their prior knowledge.
Math Tubs Exploration
Free exploration of math manipulatives is an important first step before expecting the children to use them in a purposeful way. The children will get the chance to explore pattern blocks as shown in the image above. 
KinderMath 
We begin our math curriculum today. Please read the overview in this photo for detailed info as to the 'why' we use this kind of math. 

The first unit is called Numbers 0-5

Touch & Feel...Guess What's in the Bag?   
How does glue help us learn? How do we use it properly? How do we take care of the bottle so it's ready for the next time you need it?

Touch & Feel...Guess What's in the Bag?   
How do glue sticks help us learn? How do we use them properly? How do we take care of them?
Irish Pride
We will learn how to open/shut our locker safely, walk quietly in the hall, what the playground rules are, and bathroom etiquette. Assume nothing, teach everything!

 Each day we do the calendar, the children will be involved through the use of their 'laptop' binder pages that align with the calendar on the SmartBoard. Today, we will focus our calendar time on learning how to fill in these pages.

Please view the story Our Class is a Family that your child will hear today. I believe it is one of the best stories that explains how we are a family at school. After the story, your child will receive a special bracelet and bookmark.

Today, we will revisit the cafeteria expectations with Don't Be a Lunch Monster. I hope you had a chance to read the paper story sent home!
Cafeteria Expectations
~Walk in the cafeteria.
~Eat first, talk last.
~Be sure to keep your food to yourself.
~Clean up after yourself.
~Stay seated at the lunch table until an adult tells you to empty your tray.

  Again, welcome to the wonderful world of Kindergarten! It was great meeting with all of you! We are in for an INCREDIBLE year of discovery and learning and I am THRILLED to be a part of it! A friendly reminder that each day I plan to highlight the main activities in this blog so you can talk with your child about specific things that go on during their day. I will also let you know of upcoming events and reminders so it will be important to read it each day!

A couple of years ago, Mr. Ronnenberg created a video about morning movers. To watch the route they take, click here


The children are learning about the routine/procedures/expectations involved during breakfast/lunch. Ask them about what a Lunch Monster does and what a Lunch Friend will do instead.
 
The kids will meet Pip the Pup (stuffed animal) and hear more about who he is in the story, Let's Meet Pip the Pup. Pip is the mascot for our reading curriculum so the kids will becoming very familiar with him this year!

After hearing the story We're Rocking in our Learning Shoes!, Pete the Cat will take us on a tour around our school to see all the 'cool' places there are!
