Today, the children will hear the story for enjoyment and build an interest in the topic and expand their prior knowledge by telling me what they already know about the seasons.

  KinderMath: Less Than (Day 2)

Today's lesson will give the kids more opportunities to compare groups of items and determine which group has less.

Social Studies: The kids will learn about the importance of 911.

~Tomorrow is late start and National Hot Lunch Day. I will send your child's Irish Pride shirt home if it arrives before the day ends. Otherwise, have your child wear green in

Mrs. Weninger will introduce the children to the superhero character, Superflex like the photo above. He helps children be problem solvers when Unthinkables get into their brains. Some of these may be Mean Jean, Blurting Bob, and more. Mrs. Weninger will teach about these characters in the weeks to come.

As the title says, today's lesson will give the kids opportunities to compare groups of items and determine which group has less.

We will review the vocabulary words (bare, cozy, bud, collect, chilly) that are in the story, A Tree for All Seasons. 

Literacy Jobs
 These are boxes of educational, independent activities that allow the children to practice skills in letter sounds, upper/lowercase letter matching, letter order, fine motor work and more. The activities are changed every two-three weeks. Our Literacy Jobs time will last about 45 minutes each day so I can work with small groups on phonemic awareness and phonics skills. 

KinderMath: More Than

As the title says, today's lesson will give the kids opportunities to compare groups of items and determine which group has more. This is building the foundation for counting & cardinality.

~Pajama/Crazy Sock/Hat Day is tomorrow...feel free to add some orange to their attire to represent kindness!

I will reread parts of A Tree for All Seasons so the children can answer text-dependent questions like the ones below:
~Explain how a tree looks in the winter.
~What does the author tell us about trees providing for us?
~What can we infer about the animals we see on page 3?

This lesson has the kids working on identifying sets of objects with the same amounts. This will help the kids work on accuracy when counting.

Using the story, A Tree for All Seasons, the kids will answer simple recall questions such as: What is the job of an author/illustrator? Is this a fiction or nonfiction book? What is a fact we learned about the seasons? We will clarify the vocabulary words within the story (bare, cozy, bud, collect, chilly).

KinderMath: Sort By More than One Attribute
The lesson begins with reading, The Button Box by Margarette Reid. I will ask their thoughts on how the buttons are being sorted (size, color, shape, style, etc.) Then we will look at a pile of attribute buttons and talk about how they think we should sort them. More than likely, the kids will focus on color so I will get them to think past that. (Sort by shape, button hole amount, size, etc.) 
~Overall, I am seeing improvement with writing numbers 0-5!
