KinderLiteracy: Bear's Loose Tooth
~The kids are making the bear from this story today!

                                     KinderMath: Adding 0 and 1

In today's lesson, the kids will work on the concept of adding on 0 and 1. This will be done by using a 'life-size' number path (1-10) on our classroom floor. Each child will have a turn to show what happens when we add 1 more by hopping to that number. For instance, if they are standing on 3 and I say, "Add 1",  they would hop to 4. Next, the kids will take turns to show what happens when I say, "Add 0".  Again, the idea within this entire unit is laying the foundation for using +, -, = symbols.

Earlier this week Tommy & Terry Tooth helped us understand how to keep our teeth healthy. Today, the children are making these stick puppets to bring home!

KinderMath: Combining Sets to 9
Partner A will build a train with two colors while partner B will write what was built. For instance, partner A builds a train with 3 red and 6 blue. Partner B will write 3 and 6 make 9. They will take turns being the builder and writer to find all the combinations for 9.

In this Read-Along lesson, Daniel worries he won’t do well at a friend’s Bumper Bowling party…until he figures out an unexpected way to win. The lesson includes a short exercise where students act out bowling. If you want to extend the lesson, you can try this optional activity, Human Bumper Bowling, where students make a model bumper bowling alley and work together to knock down pins.

In this Read-Along lesson, Vivian watches a house being built and wonders why the builders need so many big machines. The lesson includes a short exercise where students act out the “work words” of their favorite machine. You can extend the lesson with the optional activity, Forces at Work, where students watch videos of construction equipment and practice using work words to describe what the machines are doing.
