The kids will sequence the events in the butterfly life cycle.
Writer's Workshop: Field Trip
The kids will be writing about their trip yesterday. Where did we go? What did you do there? Your favorite thing to do?
   Math: Analyze Graphs
Today's lesson is for the kids to analyze pre-made graphs. Done as a whole group, the kids are presented the information on the SmartBoard and write the answer on their personal whiteboard. In addition, we will do interactive graphing games from various websites.

Look out Wheel & Cog Museum and Elks Park, we have some SUPER excited kindergarteners ready to have some fun!

~The Wednesday envelope will be sent home tomorrow. 
~Again, all kindergarteners will participate in Track & Field Day for about 1 1/2 hours that morning. We will resume our normal day after. 
~Although our kindergarten graduation (May 20) is in the morning, the kids will remain at school for the remainder of the day. Be sure to RSVP if you haven't done so!
~The rest of that week will be filled with a lot of fun activities until our last day, May 24.

KinderLiteracy: Butterflies
We'll discuss these vocabulary words (nectar, chrysalis, migration, instinct, generation) and answer these questions:
1) Who is the author? What is their job?
2) What is one fact we heard from the book?
Writer's Workshop: Then or Next
The kids continue to work on their story by focusing on the next part of their story which is labeled "then or next". It is important to write either of those words first in the sentence.
Math: Circle Graphs
The kids will be introduced to this type of graph today. The idea is for the kids to continue analyzing and understanding what the data shows no matter what type of layout it is in.

~ The kids will be wearing their purple tie-dye shirt tomorrow. I have them at school. 
~Be sure to have them wear shoes with socks for the museum. They will need an extra water bottle as well.

The kids will listen to Butterflies by Laura Marsh to build an interest in the topic for this week: Butterflies

For the remainder of the year, I will be taking kids for individual assessments during Literacy Jobs. Book bags will not be sent home however, the kids will be reading books from their book boxes every day in addition to their daily literacy work. 
 KinderMath: Reading Bar Graphs
The kids will collect data about fruit and place the results in a bar graph to analyze.


~We will walk through the sixth grade wax museum this morning. In addition, Ms. Malwitz's 6th graders will spend the afternoon with our class to help with some writing activities for your child's memory book and a special gift your child is working on for Mother's Day!

Writer's Workshop: Personal Word Wall
Today, the children will write the heart words displayed in our classroom into their Writer's Folder so they can access these words more efficiently. 

   Math: Graphing Continued...
We will work together to collect data about a pile of smooth and rough rocks and organize the data to analyze the results. The kids will also work on collecting data and analyzing the results on another graph about animals.
Computer class this afternoon.

Today's focus is only on the "first" part of our story. It is important at the beginning that the character and setting is illustrated and the word first is written in the sentence.

   Math: Survey and Graph
**We did not get to this yesterday.
Today's lesson will have the kids continuing to graph and analyze data. However, today they will also learn how to survey their classmates by asking them what animal is their favorite from a group of four choices. After collecting the data, they will analyze the results.
