KinderMath: Taking a Closer Look at Square and Rectangle
Today we will focus on rectangles and squares in the story, Circus Shapes by Stuart Murphy. After focusing on the attributes of rectangles and squares, the kids will look closely at the faces of the solid shapes and notice the circle base of the cylinder, cone, and square base of a cube. They will have time to explore finding the flat shapes within the solid shapes. Lastly, the kids will lay their solid shapes flat and then trace around them. Once they lift up the solid shape, they will discover a flat shape.

KinderMath: A Closer Look at Circles and Triangles
We will begin the lesson by talking about the differences between the circle and triangle and then the kids will look around the classroom for things that are shaped as circles and triangles.
We will review the attributes of a circle and triangle and illustrate several different triangles on the board. The kids
will work to sort shape cards into a category displaying triangles and another category that are not triangles.

MLK ActivityThis activity will show the kids that even though we look different on the outside, all of us look the same on the inside.

KinderMath: Constructing Solid Shapes

Using a cube, sphere, cylinder and cone, the kids will help determine and talk about which shapes will roll, stack, and slide. I will point out how the cylinder and cone can only slide on their flat side which we call the face. Lastly, they will explore which shapes are able to stack and why a cone can only be placed on a stack with nothing on top of it.

We are going shopping at the Irish Pride Store this afternoon. Your child has the choice to spend their tickets or save them for a bigger item.

KinderMath: Comparing Solid Shapes
We will read Jack the Builder bStuart Murphy and focus on the solid figures and their attributes, like their shape, size, roundness, & corners. After the read aloud, we will create a solid shapes poster like the one pictured below.

Next, we will play “Get in the Shape.” For this activity, students will pretend like they are “stuffed” in the shape. For example, they will pretend to get into a cylinder...How do the walls feel? What does the top feel like? What shape are you standing on? {circle bottom} We will continue with the remaining solid shapes.
