 Math: 2D Shapes/Positional Words (Behind, Above, Next To, etc.)/Writing #5
Today we are going to play Simon Says. You will need to listen to my clues and follow along. I am going to put my pencil (crayon box, eraser…) in front of me. Simon says put your pencil on the carpet in front of you. Simon says pick up the shape that has 4 sides and all the sides are the same length. Simon says place that shape above your pencil. Continue placing items around the pencil using positional words. Now I am going to play this again, but this time I am going to be tricky.  I am going to hide what I am doing so you can’t see it.   
Whole Group Explore: Now you are going to play a game with your partner. You will get back to back with your partner and play match it! Someone will go first and tell their partner something like..."Put your circle next to the square. Match it!". You can then see if you both have your shapes the same.

Character Education: Mrs. Weninger will review the Social Detective skills...use your eyes, ears, brain and heart and introduce the 'Unthinkable', Rock Brain. They will bring Rock Brain home with an explanation of who he is.

Again, the children select literacy-based activities off a shelf to increase skill development for letters, sounds, and words.
Math: Today we are going to make some shapes. I am going to take 3 of these sticks (all the long sized sticks) and make a shape. If you know the name of this shape, raise your hand. Make a triangle. My shape has three corners. Count and touch the points. It also has three sides. Count and touch the sides. Are any of my sides curved? Trade one of your long sticks in for a shorter stick. Continue to move the sticks around so while substituting long and short sticks. 
Whole Group Explore: Now you will get to make some shapes. Listen and build it:  
(After each shape is made, count the sides, count the corners, and name the shape) A triangle (3 long) (3 short) (2 long, 1 short) A rectangle (2 long, 2 short) A square (4 long) (4 short)

Math: 2D Shapes
  Today we are going to look at the shapes again. I am going to hand two shapes to you and your partner. Now I want you to lay them down on your desk. Tell your partner what you are noticing. (They are the same color, they are the same shape, they are different). Now I want you to bend down and look at the cards from the side of your desk. What can you tell me about your shape now? (nothing, they can’t see the shape). These shapes are called flat shapes or 2D shapes because they are flat… like a pancake! 
Whole Group Explore: Today you will sort flat shapes by their curves or with edges.  On one side of your paper, you will glue the shapes that have curved edges. On the other side you will glue the shapes that have straight edges.  
SMART Room: The children will learn how to do the 'Pencil Roll' today. Ask your child to show you how to do it.

Time for Kids: Every week, we receive Time for Kids as a way to see the world through a magazine. We share the subscription with the other K-classes so your child will bring a copy home about once a month.

~There are a lot of items in the Wednesday envelope today including your child's school picture.

Reading Comprehension: We are working on the comprehension strategy: Main Idea and Supporting Details by using the poster What Lives at the Pond?

Handwriting: E
 Math: Exploring 2D Shapes
 One shape at a time is held up and I will ask the students to describe what they see. (triangle, square, diamond)

Whole Group Explore: Ask students to look for items around the room that have a similar shape.  
Regroup students and have them share the items they found. They will then lay the paper over some attribute blocks and lightly color. The shape of the block will appear on the paper.

~Tomorrow is Wellness Wednesday which means your child will do some extra movement activities throughout the day. Have them wear their comfy workout clothes!
