Letter Focus: Cc
Name Focus: Seamus
Math: Same and different, matching quantities to 3
Writing: 1, 2, 3
New Concept: Today we are going to talk about matching items that are exactly the same. I will lay out 3 squares. Then I will match it on the other side of the paper. I need to make sure I have the same thing and the same amount. I need to count. I will touch each thing as I count it. On this side I have 3 blue squares and on this side I have 3 blue squares. Repeat modeling while counting each set. Model it incorrectly (1 on one side, 2 on the other) so you can talk about how they are not the same.
Whole Group Explore: In partners, students will play “Match it". One partner will put items on one side of their mat and say, Match it.” Their partner will then match the manipulatives. **It's the 10th day of school so Zero the Hero (puppet) will make his debut! He visits every 10th day of school to help guide the children in their understanding of 10. We sing a special song and get stamped with a '0'.
The children are continuing to learn about the calendar routine that is presented every day. This picture shows how the kids work in their 'laptops' (calendar books) that coincide with the slides on the Smartboard. Don't they look adorable?
Throughout the year, volunteers from the community share their love of reading by being a storybook reader for our elementary students to enjoy. Sometimes the reader will dress like a character from the story. Our reader this morning is scheduled for 9:30 to read Stanley's Party.

SMART Room: The kids will be introduced to the Superman pose today. This position strengthens their core as they do 3 sets to the count of 10. Ask them to show you how to do it!
~Mrs. Kath (library supervisor) was not in school on Friday so we'll make our first trip to the library this Friday.
