Science: Scientists Use Tools
Connect: Remember when we said that a scientist makes a conclusion?
Teach: Today I am going to show you some tools that a scientist might use to help them collect data. Sometimes a scientist needs to measure things in their experiment so that they can compare two items. For example, if they want to compare how much two things weigh, they might use a scale. I will display all of the scientists' tool pictures and see if we can match the words with the pictures.
Active Engagement: Now it’s your turn. You are going to be a scientist! Now, let’s play a game. I am going to read you an experiment, you tell me which tool you think the scientist should use. Read each of the experiment cards. Invite the children to decide which tool would be best for the scientist to use.
Link: Remember boys and girls, today and everyday good scientists know we have many tools. Some of the tools help the scientist to collect data by measuring.
Application: Today, you will measure with Unifix Cubes to find out what item is the longest.
