Reading Strategy: Lips the Fish...get your mouth ready to say the first sound.

All stories have characters, a setting and events. The story hand will help us visualize these elements and help us to remember to add those to our writing.

Math: 'Match Me Minus 1'
New Concept: We have been playing “Match me +1.” Today I want to show you a different version of “Match me.” We are going to play “Match Me - 1.”
Select a student card from the previous lessons. Build a set of cubes on one side of the mat then build a set that is one fewer. Use the math talk card and a marker to describe your sets.
Whole Group Explore: Today you will play “Match me - 1.” Take turns with your partner. You will use your math talk cards and a marker to describe the sets you build.
Student Application: Students will draw leaves to answer the prompt at the top of the page.
Students will write their numbers from 0-15.

The Scientific Method
Scientists Form a Hypothesis
Connect: Remember when we said that a scientist has many questions?
Teach: Today I am going to show you how scientists make a guess, called a hypothesis, to answer their questions. A scientist uses everything he already knows to make the hypothesis. Let me show you what I mean. My question is, “What would happen to gummy bears if I put them in water, vinegar and baking soda?” So now to make my hypothesis, “I’m thinking that the gummy bears will soak up water like a sponge and get bigger. So my hypothesis is… I think the gummy bear in each cup will get bigger.”
Active Engagement: Now it’s your turn. You are going to be a scientist! I’m going to pull a question out of my mystery science bag and I want to see if you can make a hypothesis.
Link: Remember boys and girls, today and everyday good scientists know we always start with a question and then form a hypothesis by saying what we think will happen.
