Writer's Workshop: We continue to work on writing more thoughts on paper.
Phonics: We are beginning to learn about the digraph "th" today. Watch for a letter coming home today that explains who the "H Brothers" are. The letter explains the fun way we introduce th, ch, sh, and wh.

Reader's Workshop: Referring to the front cover of the Reader's Theater Script At School, we will build a 'concept web' about things we do or see at school. After building the web, we will read the story.
Reading Strategy: Eagle Eye
Over the next couple of weeks we will focus in on reading strategies that will help children decode words when they get stuck. The children will work on Eagle Eye today.
DAILY 5
Math: "Mix It, Fix It, Flip It"
New Concept: When we count, we count up by 1’s. Every time
I say a number I add one. Start adding 1 cube to the 10 frame until you
reach 10. Sometimes we count down by 1’s like when a rocket is ready to
launch. Start removing the cubes until you reach 0. 10, 9, 8…
I want to show you a little game. I am going to call it “Mix it, Fix it, Flip it.”
First I am going to mix up all of my cards with the number side showing.
Now I am going to fix it. I will count down by 1, so I will start with 10.
What number will I put next? Continue to have the students chime in to tell
you the next number. Now, I am going to flip it. I will flip all of my cards
over until just the dots are showing. Next, I will mix it. Then I will fix it.
Then I will flip it again. I want to see how fast I can fix it.
Whole Group Explore: Today you will play, “Mix it, Fix it, Flip it.” Both you
and your partner will work together at the same time to mix the cards, fix
the cards, then flip the cards. See how quickly you can fix them.
Remember… we will be counting down, so you will start with the 10 card.
Student Application: Students will order their 10 frames from 10-1.

PhyEd Today
Introduction to the Scientific Method...Scientists Have Questions
Teach: Today I am going to show you how scientists have questions. Let me show you what I mean. Sometimes I wonder about things: like how things work or how animals move. So I ask myself a question like “Is a bike or a scooter faster?” Or, “What will the magnet pick up?” Or even, “How much ice cream can I fit onto the cone without it falling off?!” Or “What would happen to gummy bears if I put them in water?”
Active Engagement: Now it’s your turn. You are going to be a scientist! Turn and tell your partner some things that you wonder about. At this point, write some of their questions on chart paper.
Link: Let’s look at all of the questions that we have as scientists! Read the list of questions that you put on the chart. Reveal the first step on the Scientific Method Anchor chart. Say, “So, remember boys and girls, today and everyday good scientists know we always start with a question.”
Application: For work time collect any science tools that you have available and set up stations. Invite the children to rotate through stations to experiment with the tools. As they are experimenting, invite them to record ways they could use the tool as a scientist through text or drawings onto a piece of chart paper. Allow kids about 10-15 minutes per tub. This will take two days.
