Math: Rectangles & Squares
New Concept: The other day we made some shapes and we practiced looking for triangles. Today we are going to look at a few more. It has 4 corners, 4 sides, and all the sides are straight. It is called a rectangle. Now hold up a square. This shape has 4 corners, 4 sides, and all the sides are straight. So this is also a rectangle, but it is special! All of the sides are the same length, so it is called a square. Be sure to angle the shapes so they are not always oriented the same way.
Whole Group Explore: Hand a set of shapes to each pair of students. Now you will make some shapes. Watch as I pull a shape out of my bag then make it the best you can.
Student Application: Students will practice numeral formation 3.
Students will color and count the rectangles and squares.
