Writer's Workshop: Oral Storytelling
The children have been working on their stories using a beginning, middle and end. The B/M/E have all been placed on one piece of paper. Today, we transfer that to a book style format. The first page will hold the beginning, the next page will hold the middle and the last page holds the end. Prior to writing on each page, they will learn how to tell the story orally on each page.
The kids will listen to the story, Tally O'Malley by Stuart Murphy and focus on counting by 5’s and understanding the use of tally marks. The kids will then get to apply their skills in using tally marks by taking inventory of the classroom. They will walk around the classroom and take inventory of the items listed on the sheet. The kids will continue to work with counting by 5’s and using tallies to do so. Then using popsicle sticks, they will create sets of tally marks to 20. After the sets of tally marks have been made, they will go back through and count the sets; 5, 10, 15, 20 and mark them with pictures of hands.

~The book order is due Wednesday, February 11.
