The kids will continue working on what number comes before or after a given number up to 10. They will use a spinner to land on a number and then write the number that comes before and after. Once again, this is laying the foundation for number sense as we build onto these skills throughout the year.

These lessons on illustrating are very detail oriented. The children are learning so much about the craft of drawing step by step and paying attention to detail.

KinderMath: All About Numbers 0-10

The kids will work on a couple of activities to continue number sense of any number 0-10. 
~Counting objects and writing the corresponding number.
~Identifying how many boxes are filled on a Ten-Frame and writing the corresponding number.

  Time for Kids: Play Your Part

Science: What's The Biggest Excavator?
Our first science unit introduces the children to pushes and pulls and how those affect the motion of objects.
 In today's lesson, the kids discover that there are pushes and pulls involved in any kind of work, including the work done by machines. In the activity, Be a Digging Machine, they pretend to use shovels and excavators to dig a hole for a swimming pool.

Writer's Workshop: Shape School
The kids will cut/glue/assemble shapes to create a school. This is an additional way for the kids to use shapes (rather than only drawing the shapes) as a setting for stories they will eventually write.

KinderMath: Read and Write 9-10

Partners will work on building sets of 9 and 10 using a 10-Frame and comparing with each other who has more/less. Next, the children will hear the story, Ten Black Dots by Donald Crews and see how sets of 9 and 10 dots can be made into different things. The story will be used again on tomorrow so the children can create their own picture using up to 10 black dots.

 To kick off this lesson, the kids will hear the story, Ty's Travels: Lab Magic by Kelly Starling Lyons.
 Then the kids explore some things they do every day that scientists ALSO do: observe, ask questions, do experiments, and share their questions and learning. In the activity, Termite Tester, the kids will virtually observe termite behavior and then do a series of virtual experiments to figure out the answers to their questions.

Pumpkin Day
We have a few pumpkin activities scheduled for today!
~ Where is the Pumpkin? Book: An interactive prepositions activity
~ Paint a pumpkin (Thank you to Addie's family for donating them!)
~ Pumpkin stories
~Pumpkin life cycle (We didn't get to this yesterday.)

The picture above shows our Pumpkin Jack that will be with us. It will be fun for the kids to watch what happens to him all year!

Mrs. Marsicek will be here teach the children about the Unthinkables, Rock Brain and Was Funny Once.
