Language Arts: Comprehension Strategy: Analyze Story Elements
We will fill this graphic organizer with the story elements using the story,
The Enormous Watermelon.
A storybook reader is scheduled for 10:10 to read Snowmen at Christmas.
Writer's Workshop: Before writing in their journal about a memory, I will talk about visualizing with details. It's important to not add an abundance of detail in order to stay focused on the writing. Modeling this will help. Here's what I will say...Once when I was young, my dad and I wanted to give my grandma something special for her fiftieth birthday. We decided to plant a tree in her backyard! We bought a little tree. We dug a big hole in Grandma's backyard. We put the tree in the hole, pushed dirt all around it, and watered it. Grandma was so happy that she cried! I just shared a lot of details about what happened and how everyone felt. I can't include all those details in my drawing. I will just draw a picture of my dad, my grandma, and me looking at the tree. Dad and I will be smiling, and Grandma will be crying tears of joy. I think these are the most important parts of my memory.

DAILY 5
Math: The children will use spinners to 'Count and Scoot' beans. The numbers will be anywhere from 11-15. The beans will be put on two 10-Frames in order for the kids to start noticing that '10 and ___ more make ___.' We also want the kids to really start understanding that once a ten frame is filled, we no longer need to count all the items in each frame...it's 10 and we can count on from there.
