 Name Focus: Ezra
Each day, one of our friends will be featured in a name focus. We will count how many letters are in it, how many syllables it has, and how to reassemble it out of order. It is important to use children's names as they embark on learning about literacy. Names are a valuable resource in becoming literate. Important networks of understanding can be built around children's names. Making things meaningful for children and connecting it to their world is very important in helping children learn.

Every day the children will echo me by saying each letter name, sound, and word from the chart above. Every letter has a hand gesture that I am teaching with the sounds. Not all children hear the sound alone. Some children need to 'see & feel' the sound in order to make a connection to the letter/sound symbol. I will be creating a short video for you to see what the movement is. Stay tuned...
KinderLiteracy
KinderLiteracy is the name of our reading program we use at Maple Lake. It digs deep into texts to help build understanding and meaning through weekly themes that support comprehension.
This week's theme is Sharing and the focused text is: Rainbow Fish by: Marcus Pfister.
Today, the children will hear the story for enjoyment and build an interest in the topic and expand their prior knowledge.

Free exploration of math manipulatives is an important first step before expecting the children to use them in a purposeful way. The children will get the chance to explore pattern blocks as shown in the image above.
