The kids will go on a shape hunt around our classroom and illustrate one item for each of the four flat shapes: circle, triangle, square, rectangle. 
We have been invited to see the high school drama class perform their play that has been written and will be performed by them. The play will be a retelling of the stories of Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, and Rapunzel. Each story will have its own unique and humorous adaptation, accompanied by a moral lesson for students. 
This is happening from 2:10-2:30.

Math: Looking Closer at Hexagons
Honey the Hexagon will help the kids count the sides and corners of a hexagon. The kids will expand their knowledge of hexagons by exploring with a game called Fill the Hexagon using pattern blocks. They will roll a cube that has the flat shapes drawn on it and whatever shape it lands on is placed inside the hexagon. The kids will also have time to use Geoboards/Geobands to build shapes as shown in the photo below.

 KinderMath: Taking a Closer Look at Square and Rectangle   
Today we will focus on rectangles and squares in the story, Circus Shapes by Stuart Murphy. After focusing on the attributes of rectangles and squares, the kids will look closely at the faces of the solid shapes and notice the circle base of the cylinder, cone, and square base of a cube. They will have time to explore finding the flat shapes within the solid shapes. Lastly, the kids will lay their solid shapes flat and then trace around them. Once they lift up the solid shape, they will discover a flat shape.
