Scientists Have Tools to Help Them See
Connect: Remember the other day when we said that we can use the index in a nonfiction book to find information about tools that a scientist uses to measure?
Teach: Today I am going to show some other tools that a scientist has. These are tools that he uses to see things more clearly. Sometimes things are so tiny or so far away that we can’t really see them. So, if a scientist is trying to look at something that is too small or too far away, he can use a special tool. One of those tools I bet you have seen before, a magnifying glass. What do you think a scientist would use a magnifying glass for?
Active Engagement: Now it’s your turn. You are going to be a scientist! Now, let’s play a game. I am going to read you an experiment, and you tell me which tool you think the scientist should use. (The kids tell if it's a magnifying glass, telescope, or microscope.)
Link: Remember boys and girls, today and everyday good scientists use tools to help them see things that are too tiny or too far away.
Application: The children will use a magnifying glass to identity teeny, tiny objects and draw what they see.
~The book order is due Wednesday.
