Writer's Workshop: Tell a Story Instead of Naming the Parts
We are working on producing more written sounds that make a sentence rather than only labeling.
DAILY 5We are working on producing more written sounds that make a sentence rather than only labeling.
A storybook reader is scheduled for 9:30 to read A Very Long Time.
New Concept: These next few lessons will be used to reinforce number order, counting, and fluency.
Today we are going to sort out some cards. First, I want to lay the number cards out in order. Then I want to match the yellow (Ten-Frames) and orange(picture) cards to it.
Whole Group Explore: Partners will order their cards and sort them in a similar way.
Student Application: Students will practice counting, tracing, and writing numerals 6-10.

Scientists Have Tools to Help them Pour, Mix and Stir
Connect: Remember yesterday when we said that a scientist has tools to help him pour, stir, and mix liquids?
Teach: Today I am going to show you how to use beakers and test tubes. Show the kids a beaker. Do you remember reading about a beaker in our Science Tools book? Talk about a beaker and how to use one. How about this tool? Show them a test tube. Who remembers what this is called? Did our nonfiction book give us any information about a test tube?
Active Engagement: Now it’s your turn. Let’s see what you know about beakers and test tubes. I want you to move closely to your partner. I want you to take turns telling something you know. Once you tell one thing, it will be your partner’s turn to tell one thing. As the kids are sharing ideas, back up and write it on the chart. Use the headers on the following page to make your chart.
Link: Remember boys and girls, today and everyday good scientists know we have tools to help pour, mix, and stir liquids. Here is what you know about beakers and test tubes. Read the chart to the children.
Application: The children will do an experiment using the beakers/test tubes to see if Alka-Seltzer fizzes in water, water & oil, or oil only.
SMART Room: Baked Turkey Roll
Scrunch like you're a turkey and roll in the position all the way down the table. The challenge is to keep your body on the center tape all the way.
