~There are new activities for the kids to choose from for Word Work. We are focusing on building sentences, word families, and vowel sounds.
SMART Room: Heart/Valentine theme. I will post pictures of the activities over the next week or so.

 Math: Making a class book of subtraction equations...

New Concept: The other day we practiced using our whole/part/part
equations and used manipulatives as an subtraction strategy. Today I want
to show you another strategy. It is already one that we are very good at.
You can draw a picture to help you. Let’s say I had this problem in front
of me and I was not sure how to figure it out (5-2). I could just draw a
picture! Draw a simple picture with circles to demonstrate this problem.
Draw 5 of something simple, then cross out 2 of them.
Whole Group Explore: Today you are going to draw pictures to solve
some math equations. We will make this into another class book, so do
your best! The books will have woodland animals which means animals you
might see in the woods.
*It's day 90 so Zero the Hero will be here!

~We received the 'Golden Dustpan' from the custodial staff for keeping our classroom so clean last week!

~We enjoyed celebrating Sullaven's birthday last week...

 Math: Subtraction
 New Concept: We used the whole/part-part mat to put numbers together. Today we are going to use them to take numbers apart.  When we take a number apart we use this symbol ( - ). Today we are going to use these boards again. I am going to start by putting 10 cubes on the “whole’” bar.  I will roll a dice (3).  Then I will break 3 off and put it in the first “part” box. Then put the rest in the second “part” box.  Now I can read my math talk card...10 – 3 = 7.  We'll try a few more examples to get the idea.
Whole Group Explore: There are some strategies you can use to help you with addition or adding numbers together like I just did.  We already know how to count on our fingers. One of the other strategies is to use manipulatives such as snap cubes. Today you will use our new BIG math words as we use our whole/part-part board to do addition. While one of you is using the board, the other will be writing the equation down. Take turns. 
Student Application: Students will practice solving  their equations.
Computer class today
No library today as it is being used for the Battle of the Books competition.
