Wednesday, January 13

Wednesday, January 13
 Popcorn Word: have
Color Word Focus: green
Phonics: 'Wh' Brothers
Language Arts: Working on Comprehension: Reflect on Making Inferences
I may say something similar to this to work on making inferences...

Remind students of some of the inferences they made about Katy's First Day of School. They connected the story to their own lives and used clues from the words and pictures in the story to make these inferences. For example, they used their own experiences to infer that Katy hadn't been to school and that she is worried. They used picture clues to infer that Katy loves to paint.
Connect and transfer. Say: Remember, good readers make inferences as they read. They pay attention to the story pictures and events and connect them to their own experiences to figure out things the author does not directly say. Make inferences every time you read and listen to a story.

Writer's Workshop: We will begin to explore making a simple book with our writing. PLEASE read the info that will come home in today's Wednesday envelope that will tell where we are heading with this.
DAILY 5...We have added the 5th component to our Daily 5 routine...Read to Someone. The children read to one of their peers during one of the rounds we do during this time. (We typically do 3 rounds about 14 minutes each.) Again, the other components are: Word Work, Work on Writing, Read to Self, Listen to Reading.
 Math: 'Match Me Minus 1'
New Concept:   We have been playing “Match me +1.” Today I want to show you a different version of “Match me.”   We are going to play “Match Me - 1.” Watch and I will show you how to play.
Select a student card from the previous lessons. Build a set of cubes on one side of the mat.  Then build a set that is one fewer. Use the math talk card and a marker to describe your sets.
Whole Group Explore: Today you will play “Match me - 1.” Take turns with your partner. You will use your math talk cards and a marker to describe the sets you build.
Student Application: Students will draw leaves to answer the prompt at the top of the page.
Students will write their numbers from 0-15.

Smart Room Highlight: Ipads continue to be a fine motor favorite!
