Character Education: Mrs. Weninger will not be here today.

New Concept: Yesterday we had so much fun measuring things in our class room that I want to show you something that mathematicians do. They estimate! When you estimate, you make a smart guess. I have this yarn and I want to make some estimations. I estimate that this yarn will be longer than my foot. Now I can check it. Was my estimate right? I estimate that this yarn will be longer than my school bag. Was my estimate right? It is okay to not always be right. I estimate that this yarn will be shorter than our big book. (I will continue to estimate and use the language as I measure other items in the classroom). One thing that I need to remember is to use my tools correctly. We need to line up the yarn with the edge of the item I want to measure.
Whole Group Explore: Today you will get to estimate and measure just like yesterday. Now, when I measure with the string will I want the string to be loosey goosey like a jump rope or should I pull it so it looks straight against the object?
Student Application: Students will practice tracing and writing 8, 9, 10.
Student’s will color the objects that are shorter.
Students will draw an acorn that is shorter.

Have a GREAT weekend and good luck to any of you who deer hunt!
