New Concept: The image above shows what a number bond is.
I am going to tell a story and use my number bond as I do.
There was a dog and he found 3 bones in the garden (put cubes in smaller circle). He found 4 bones by the shed (put cubes in the other small circle). How many bones did he find all together? (move all the cubes into the large circle)
Whole Group Explore: Now you will work with your partner as I tell the story.
•Mylee found 4 pink shells and 3 purple shells on the beach. How many did she find in all?
• The horse ate 3 apples and 5 carrots. How many treats did he get in all?
• James had 4 red jelly beans and 6 green jelly beans. How many did he have all together?

Student Application: Students will create their own number bonds to solve the problems.
