DAILY 5
Math: Measurement
New Concept: We have been comparing the weight of two items. How does my the balance look when an item is heavier? That end dips down. How does it look when an item is lighter? That end is up. What would my scale look like if two items were the same weight? The buckets or cups would be even or the same. Add a pencil to one cup and another item (pen) that weighs the same in the other cup. Discuss how you know they weigh the same. Take the other item (pen) out and put a penny in the other cup. Which weighs more the pencil or one penny? Add another penny. Now which weighs more, a pencil or two pennies? Continue adding pennies until they are the same as the pencil.
Whole Group Explore: Today you will be weighing objects to see how many pennies they are. You will do just what I did. You will put one object in the cup. Then add pennies to see how many pennies it weighs.
