Writer's Workshop: The Importance of naming the activity in our 'How-To' writing
Math: Math: Numberline Subtraction Day 1
New ConceptYesterday we practiced drawing pictures as subtraction strategy. Today I want to show you another strategy. We can also use the number line just like we did for addition. I am going to roll the dice(5). Now I am going to put my frog on number 5. Now I am going to roll again (2). I am going to hop back two spots Count with me. So 5 -2 = 3. This is repeated several times.
Whole Group ExploreToday you are going to use the strategy of using a number line to help you with subtraction. You will first roll the dice and put
one cube on that number. Then roll again and put one cube on the other
number. You will need to count your hops to find your answer. Your partner will write your equation down. Then you will switch.
NOTE: Students will want to count the number they started on instead of the hops.
Student Application:Students will practice writing their equations.

~We enjoyed the stories our storybook reader read to us...

~Again, please have your child read the books in their reading bag.
They can choose one or read them all. Their bag can be returned on                  Friday so be sure to sign the communication book to let me know
that they read to you. :)
