1) Who is the author? What is their job compared to the illustrator?
2) What is one FACT we heard from the book?

 KinderMath: Compare 'Some Extra'
The kids will be focusing on the “extras” of a teen number (15 is 10 and 5 extras; 16 is 10 and 6 extras, etc.). Using the story, How Many Snails? by Paul Giganti, the kids will count the cupcakes with sprinkles and have their partner show that on their ten-frame. “We counted 13 cupcakes with sprinkles. Next, they will count the cupcakes with white icing. “How many cupcakes did we count with white icing? 14. Now, just state the extras that are off your ten frame board. 3, 4. So, what is more: 3 or 4? Yes, 4! So, the cupcakes that were ten four or 14 is more. The same type of statements like above will be repeated throughout the book for the children to show on their ten-frame.

 KinderMath: Decomposing 11-20
This lesson is the foundation for students to compare teen numbers. We will review that a teen number is 10 and some extras. We will then work on comparing the “extras” before we move into comparing teen numbers for their numeral only. Using a magnetic Ten Frame, I will show a full ten-frame and ask, “How many do we see here? 10! How did you know that? What if I do this? (The magnets will be moved outside of the ten frame but still in a group.) How many do I have? I still have 10. Just because I moved them outside of the ten-frame, there are still 10 because I didn’t add any or take any away. Now what if I do this?” (I will add 3 additional magnetic circles to the OUTSIDE of the filled ten-frame) and ask, “How many do I now have? 13!  You knew there were 10 and counted on...11, 12, 13.” I'll write the number 13 on the board and explain that the 1 stands for ONE group of 10 and the 3 stands for the EXTRAS. I will continue the same routine with the numbers 12, 14, and 15.

KinderLiteracy: Presidents
We will be rereading parts of the book to answer some text-dependent questions as seen in the photo below.

 KinderMath: Compare Numbers to 10
First, the kids will be reviewing the comparison of numbers to 10 by working with sets of images, sounds, and numerals to 10. Next, I will read How Many Snails? A Counting Book and ask questions like Are there more grey clouds or white clouds? Are there fewer big clouds or little clouds? Are there fewer yellow or pink flowers? Are there more fish with their mouths open or shut? etc. Lastly, the kids will listen to sets of sounds and tell me if they hear more claps vs. stomps, knocks vs. clicks, etc. This allows children to realize we use comparison in our lives everyday, and it’s not solely dependent on numerals.

Computer class this afternoon.
  Social Studies: Abraham Lincoln
The kiddos will learn a little bit about his life and complete a directed drawing of him and George Washington.
