KinderLiteracy: A Bad Case of Stripes 

We will focus on the vocabulary words within the story (fret, ointment, contagious, lawn, sob) and answer these questions:

1) Where does the story take place?

2) Who are the main characters?

3) What is the problem? How was the problem solved?

This lesson guides the children into the first steps of stretching out more words for their stories.

Literacy Jobs  

  KinderMath: Count by 5's  

The kids will listen to the story, Tally O'Malley by Stuart Murphy and focus on counting by 5’s and understanding the use of tally marks. The kids will then get to apply their skills in using tally marks by taking inventory of the classroom. They will walk around the classroom and take inventory of the items listed on the sheet. The kids will continue to work with counting by 5’s and using tallies to do so. Then using popsicle sticks, they will create sets of tally marks to 20. After the sets of tally marks have been made, they will go back through and count the sets; 5, 10, 15, 20 and mark them with pictures of hands.
