Letter Study: Yy
 Popcorn Word: if
Phonological Awareness: Blend Syllables
Using the song This Old Man, I substitute different multi-syllabic words instead of number words for the kids to blend together.
EX: This old man, he played one,
He played bas (pause) ket (pause) ball on my thumb. (basketball)
This old man, he played two,

He played vid (pause) e (pause) os on my shoe...
Language Arts: Comprehension Strategy: Analyze Story Elements (Setting, Characters, Problem, Solution) & Metacognitive Strategy: Summarize/Synthesize
We will use the following poster about the boy who has a red ball and is playing by himself. We will work on solving the problem as to how he can ask others to play.

~We have a gift wrapping play center set up in our classroom now. The kids will have fun wrapping one of the following items to give to a friend: teddy bear, necklace, car, crayons, or a ball. This center helps the kids determine whether the gift should be wrapped in a small, medium, or large piece of paper. Other skills are: cutting, taping, and writing friends' names. To watch the recipients open a gift from a friend is priceless as both parties enjoy the anticipation. The gift is then returned to the wrapper for 're-gifting' to another friend. The fun keeps going on and on!
If you have any tape to spare, we could use some! Thanks!

~Please return the Club's Choice orders tomorrow if you didn't do so today. Thank you for helping our school!
~Report cards will be sent home Wednesday, December 3.
~The silly turkey made her visit last week...

Happy Birthday Abby!
Letter Study: Zz
 Popcorn Word: as
Phonological Awareness: Segment Initial Sounds
The kids push two strips of paper together and say a word, such as yard. They pull out short piece with their left hand as we say /y/ and the long piece with their right hand as we say /ard/. Pull both pieces back together and say yard.
We will do this with other words as well.
Language Arts:  Comprehension Strategy: Analyze Story Elements (Setting, Characters, Problem, Solution) & Metacognitive Strategy: Summarize/Synthesize
We will use the following poster to work on these skills.

A storybook reader is scheduled for 10:10 to read A Very Marley Christmas.
Writer's Workshop: Reading the journal entries that are in the following book:

I will point out how the different journal entries include drawings, what the writers know about letters and sounds to write their message, and how they write complete sentences. The children will recall something they did this morning before school and write about that in their journal.
  DAILY 5
Math: Counting accurately using the 'Touch and Scoot' method as well as lining the items up to count. If something can't be moved, such as pictures on a paper, we can use the 'Count and Check' strategy. We can put a check mark on the ones we have already counted.
*Zero the hero comes...It's the 60th day of school!

Smart Room Highlight: Decorate the Holiday Star. Great fine motor activity!
