The kids push two strips of paper together and say a word, such as yard. They pull out short piece with their left hand as we say /y/ and the long piece with their right hand as we say /ard/. Pull both pieces back together and say yard.
We will do this with other words as well.
Language Arts: Comprehension Strategy: Analyze
Story Elements (Setting, Characters, Problem, Solution) &
Metacognitive Strategy: Summarize/SynthesizeWe will use the following poster to work on these skills.

A storybook reader is scheduled for 10:10 to read A Very Marley Christmas.
I will point out how the different journal entries include drawings, what the writers know about letters and sounds to write their message, and how they write complete sentences. The children will recall something they did this morning before school and write about that in their journal.
DAILY 5
Math: Counting accurately using the 'Touch and Scoot' method as well as lining the items up to count. If something can't be moved, such as pictures on a paper, we can use the 'Count and Check' strategy. We can put a check mark on the ones we have already counted.Smart Room Highlight: Decorate the Holiday Star. Great fine motor activity!
