~We collected $1,651.49 for the EDUCATION pillar to send 33 kids to school in Haiti. Our goal was to collect 1500.00 so we exceeded that goal! Thank you!
~Your child has homework for Spring Break. It's best to spread the work out over the week and I encourage you to continue reading 15-20 minutes to them each day.
~I am sending their towels for rest time home now...you won't need to return them after break.
~Have a wonderful week!

Wednesday, March 23
 Popcorn Word: word
Language Arts: Using intonation to read with expression. To emphasize this, I will read the nursery rhyme Little Bo Peep in a monotone voice and then reread it again using proper intonation. The kids will try it with me too. We will then practice our parts in People at School.

Handwriting: lowercase m & words with m
Writer's Workshop: The children will write get-well cards for Alivia in Mrs. Jost's class.
Math: More Work with Equal
New Concept: Today we are going to continue to practice sharing so that everyone gets the same amount. This time we will try it with a bigger group. I went to my parents house for dinner last week. My mom had these wonderful little chocolates.  We decided to share them equally. There were 5 of us. Count out 20 cubes and ask a few students to pretend to be your family members. Repeat the process from the previous day of handing one cube to each of the 5 people in your “family.” Ask: How many did they each get?
Whole Group Explore: Today you will work with your partner like you did yesterday.  You will need to share them equally with your partner.  We will pretend that these snap cubes are cookies.
First roll the dice (spin the spinner) and count out that many cubes then share them equally.
Student Application: Students will share bones equally with some dogs.

Language Arts: Using the story, People at School, the kids will 'Echo-Read' to build fluency as well as work on retelling the story.

Writer's Workshop: What is persuasive writing? The kids will get the chance to write something convincing.
 Daily 5!
Math: Equal
New Concept: The other day I went to the donut shop to get donuts for my family. They had those little donut holes. So when we got home I wanted to share them so we each had the same amount. Isn’t that the nice thing to do when you are sharing? I got a dozen donuts which is the same as 12. There were 3 at our house that day, so watch!
Count out 12 cubes. Ask some of your students to pretend they are members of your family and you hand one cube to each. Ask Do I have enough for everyone to get another? Continue until all 12 cube are handed out. Ask Did they each get an equal amount?
Whole Group Explore: Now you will work with your partner and pretend that you got a box of cookies. You will need to share them equally with your partner. We will pretend that these snap cubes are cookies.
First roll the dice (spin the spinner) and count out that many cubes. Then share them equally.
Student Application: Students will share the cookies equally with their friends.

A storybook reader is scheduled for 9:30 to read Marley & The Great Easter Egg Hunt.
Math: Composing/Decomposing Numbers
New Concept: Today we will keep working with our number bonds.
Some times when we have a math problem we have to know if we are going to put numbers together or if we have to take them apart. Listen to my story and tell me if I have to put the numbers together or take them apart.
•I had 10 coins. 3 of them were pennies, the rest were dimes.
•There were some animals at the zoo. 4 were elephants and 5 were zebras.
Whole Group Explore: Now you will work with your partner as I tell the story. You will want to pay attention to know if you need to put the numbers together or take them apart.
•I have 8 pairs of shoes. 3 of them have ties, but the rest do not.
•When I went out at recess, I saw 4 kids on the equipment and 6 playing basketball.
•I counted 9 vehicles in the parking lot this morning. 4 were cars and the rest were trucks.
Student Application: Students will complete there own number bonds.
