Sight & Number Words: was, what, seven, eight
Word Family Focus: -ot
Reading Workshop: The kids will perform the book Reader's Theater script Farm Animals with a focus on fluency.Math: Area
New Concept: Sometimes when we think about measuring, we measure in a different way. Imagine you wanted to put tile on our classroom floor. You would have to know how many tile squares to buy. Let’s pretend that this paper I have is my floor that I want to cover. I am going to use these squares to cover it. Place 1” squares over the surface of your construction paper. I want to be sure each square is touching because I don’t want any gaps in my flooring! After you have all of the squares in place, invite the students to help you count them. Imagine I changed my mind about the tiles and I wanted these (snap cubes) instead. Would I need the same number of tiles? Let’s check.
Ask, "Why do I need more of the snap cubes than the squares?"
Whole Group Explore: Now you are going to do a similar activity.
Students will cut, glue, and count the “tiles” (basketballs or footballs) they need to cover their larger square.
Student Application: Students will cover the area of the rug with cats.

DAILY 5
Music Today
Science: Are All Stars the Same Size?
Connect: Remember yesterday when we learned that what color a star is depends on how hot the star is?
Teach: Today, I am going to show you that not only are some stars brighter than other stars, but there are also some stars that are larger than other stars. We know that not only are blue stars the hottest, but they are also the largest stars. We also know that medium stars are yellow and that the smallest stars are red. This chart tells us all about the size of different stars. Spend some time talking about the chart and how to read it.
Active Engagement: Now it’s your turn. You are going to be a scientist! We are going to use the chart to record our information. We are going to make a stars book.
Link: Remember boys and girls, today and everyday, good scientists know when we read we must remember to find evidence to answer our questions. We also know that we can use charts to help us organize our information.
~Enjoy the warm weather this weekend!
