Sight Word Focus: if
Language Arts: Introduce the comprehension strategy: Make Inferences
Using the poster below, we will talk about what we know already just by looking at the picture.

  • Readers make inferences using clues in text and pictures and what they know to figure out what an author does not state directly.
  • Making inferences helps readers make sense of a text and build interest as they read.
  • Making inferences encourages readers to think about the message an author is communicating.

A storybook reader is scheduled for 9:30 to read Merry Christmas Splat.
Writer's Workshop: As I anticipated on Friday, we didn't get a chance to write our reindeer reports. We'll do that today.

DAILY 5
 Math: Part/Part Whole
New Concept: Review the concept of part/part/whole. Let’s think some more about part/part/whole. One day I found 9 acorns. I put 5 in my pocket and the rest in my bag. How many did I put in my bag? As you tell the story, start to build on your whole/part/part mat.
Whole Group Explore: Now you are going to work with your partner. Everyone will start with 10 as their whole number. One partner will roll the dice and count out the cubes and put them on a part. The other partner will need to figure out how many cubes to put on the other part to make 10.
Student Application: Students will practice completing their whole/part/part frames.
PhyEd Today
Holidays Around the World {Little Thinkers: UNIT 3}Social Studies: The Holidays in Italy

The children will learn about the holiday tradition in Italy. (I posted that we were doing this last Friday but it was for today.)
~Santa Elf 'C's you...hehe

~If you haven't done so, please send the wrapped children's book for our exchange on Thursday. Thank you!
~Let the Reindeer Games begin...
First, the children were movin' and groovin' reindeer style with Mrs. Jost.
Next, Mrs. Schrupp read a reindeer story after the kids made their antlers.
The children made their reindeer bread with me.
~Our final event of the morning had us trotting through the halls to spread our reindeer cheer! The kids had a blast!
~What a great visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. I will show a few kids each day this week that had a chance to visit with Santa...
~Santa left his cam to keep his eye on us!
