Reader's Workshop:  Reader's Theater: People at School


Students will:
Discuss the concept of workers at school.
Build concepts about print.
Build academic and sight word vocabulary.
Build oral language and vocabulary through whole-group discussion.

 Writer's Workshop: Remember our Elf on the Shelf? Well today the children will be meeting their leprechaun on a shelf. Each day until Friday, the kids will journal where the leprechaun was found and where they think it will be the next day. A note about our elf and what we name it will come home today!

 Math: Using a Ten Frame
 New Concept: Yesterday we had a fun time playing “Pass the beans.” Our egg carton is just like a 10-frame, we use it because it helps us organize our materials. Dump a bag of materials out in a pile, then ask the students if they can tell how many there are. Put the items in the egg carton (filling up 10), then lay the remaining in a 10-frame configuration. 
Whole Group Explore: Today, we are going to play “Pass the beans” like we did the other day, but we will have more items in our bags. You will do like I did with my pennies. Fill the carton, then lay the others by it to see how many you have. Each pair of students start with an empty egg carton and a bag of manipulatives. The kids will place the manipulatives in the egg carton slots as they count. Then the teacher will give the signal, “Pass the beans” and the bag of manipulatives will rotate in a clockwise direction.

Science: Scientists Use Tools-Telescopes
The children will learn about telescopes and sort pictures that you would need a telescope for in order to see.
