DAILY 5
New Concept: The other day I went to the donut shop to get donuts for my family. They had those little donut holes. So when we got home I wanted to share them so we each had the same amount. I got a dozen donuts which is the same as 12. There were 3 at our house that day, so watch!
Count out 12 cubes. Ask some of your students to pretend they are members of your family and you hand one cube to each. Do I have enough for everyone to get another? Continue until all 12 cube are handed out. Did they each get an equal amount?
Whole Group Explore: Now you will work with your partner and pretend that you got a box of cookies. You will need to share them equally with your partner. We will pretend that these snap cubes are cookies.
First spin the number spinner and count out that many cubes. Then share them equally.
Student Application: Students will share the pretend cookies equally between two friends.
