New Concept: Today we are going to be counting and matching numbers with cubes. This time we are going to play with numbers up to 6. First I am
going to pull a number card out of my bag (6). Now I am going to put 6 cubes on
my mat. I need to check that I have the right amount by touching each cube and counting them. 1, 2, 3. . Now I want to build another set so I have a matching pair. I have to be careful, Watch! Give a non-example of 1-to-1. Explain how you have to be sure they line up.
Whole Group Explore: Now we are going to play match me again. Partner 1 will take out a number and place that many cubes on their board and say, “match me!” Partner 2 will match the cubes. Then you will both check to be sure you
have a pair by laying the toothpicks down to be sure you have the same amount.
Student Application: Students will practice writing the number 6.
Students will draw a line to matching quantities.

~I am looking forward to visiting with those of you scheduled for conferences tonight. Don't forget to check out the Scholastic Book Fair too!
