Mrs. Tongen tries to write more sight words in a given time than the children! They LOVE this game!

New Concept: "I want to measure how long this pencil is so I am going to use my cubes to measure it. First I estimate and snap some cubes together. Then I measure. I have to be sure that I line them up on the end. Now I snap off any extra. If the pencil lands in the middle of the cube {we round up}. Then we count to see how many cubes it is. We can say, “My pencil is about 8 cubes long.”
I will provide a few examples before I send the kids off to work.
Whole Group Explore: Today you get to hunt around the room to measure a few items. Be sure you are very careful to line the cubes with the bottom or edge of the item you are measuring.
Student Application: Students will count and write their numbers 8, 9, 10.
Student’s will order the pumpkins from tallest to shortest.
We are creating this special keepsake today. Your child will bring it home next week.
