Monday, March 16

Monday, March 16
Some Leprechauns may visit our classroom today. It's likely that they will do some shenanigans by leaving their green footprints all over and even mess a few things up in our classroom! We will be on the lookout ALL day for any suspicious activity. In fact, we will go on our own hunt for gold this afternoon.
Oh my, the shenanigans have already started in our morning message.

~My heart is aches thinking about the days ahead. Please know that I love all of your children and want the best for all of you! Stay tuned for things to do over break!

 Writer's Workshop: Personal Narratives
*We start this new unit today.
A narrative story has a certain job it has to do There are four major things we want to remember when it comes to narrative writing. A narrative is always written by the character. Next, a narrative story is always written about a real life event that happened to you. Third, a narrative contains your feelings on what happened. Did it make you sad? Did it make you happy? Lastly, a narrative is generally a story that is told in sequential order. That just means that the story is told with a beginning, middle and an ending.

I will begin by posing the following “problem” for the kids. " I am needing some help today. My daughter asked me to make her a sweater with yellow and red buttons on it. She told me she wanted 6 buttons on her sweater and to use red and yellow buttons, but I am not sure how many of each I want to use! Can you help me make all the possible combinations of buttons I can use on the sweater?" The kids will help me make the combinations using red/yellow snap cubes.

Today the kids will be continuing to review their combos to five. I will demonstrate how to use their fingers to show combos to 5 {4 down, 1 up or 3 down, 2 up}.
Next, I will lay down 5 red/yellow counters and ask“How many counters will we have? We will have five. Now I’m going to place the five counters in my cup, and when I spill the cup, we will see how many yellow I have and how many red I have.  “Look what we have...3 and 2. Let’s check to see if 3 and 2 are on our friends of 5 chart. We will continue playing several rounds together, and then the kids will play Spill the Cup! with their partner. At the conclusion of this activity, the kids are making their own 'Make Five' booklets.
