All Aboard!
It's time to head to the North Pole on the Polar Express!
We are watching the story of The Polar Express By: Chris Van Allsburg on the SmartBoard. Our classroom chairs will be placed in rows facing the SmartBoard so the kids can see and hear the story come to life. Before leaving on our make-believe train ride, the kids will be given a ticket to be punched and at the end of the ride, receive a letter and bell from Santa.

We are having hot chocolate and popcorn when we return from the North Pole!

 Project: Train
The kids are making the Polar Express as it drives through the midnight snow.

Santa's visit was awesome!

~Have your child do their holiday homework (in the Wednesday envelope) and I will have lunch with them in our classroom when we return. Check off each item that is completed and return it (signed) to me on Monday, January 3. Lunch in our classroom will be on Tuesday, January 4! 😄
~I want to thank all of you for entrusting your child to me each day so I can continue doing what I love to do! As you approach 2022, take time to soak in everything your little cherub is. Embrace their innocence, energy, and savor their youth because in a blink of an eye, it's over!
May your holidays be truly special with your family and friends.
~See you in 2022~
Here is a special message for you...

     Kindermath: About Number 13
We will look closely at how to build 13 the '10' way. Again, we want the children to see teen numbers as "10 and some more."

UGLY Sweater Day!

Writer's Workshop: Stretching More Sounds
Working together on dictation is so important for our littles!
The following information was taken from 'This Reading Mama' website.
Children are not born understanding the purpose of writing. It has to be modeled in multiple and meaningful ways. Often times, they have a hard time distinguishing between the picture and the words when they write. We have to be explicit about print and its purpose: to communicate meaning to the reader. There are many simple ways we can do this. Labeling your home with print, acknowledging environmental printwriting them notes, and pointing out words and features of print as you read aloud are all great ways to expose young children to print.

     Kindermath: Teen Number 12
Again, we are working on teen numbers and really trying to understand that it is '10 and some more.' Today's work focuses on the number 12.

     Kindermath:About Number 11
We will look closely at how to build 11 the '10' way. Again, our goal is to help children see teen numbers as "10 and some more."
I forgot to post this about math yesterday...

We begin a new unit today called Numbers 10-19.
Today's Lesson: About 10...Count it Out

  **A note from the author...
Teen numbers are no easy task for kindergarten students. You will hear the repeated term, “Ten and some extras.” It is vital when learning teen numbers that your child knows they are teen numbers for one reason only...they all contain ONE group of ten. We want to be sure your child does not think teen numbers are a and a 2.
1 and make 3 and not 12
Your child should know and be able to explain that 10 and 2 make 12, not 1 and 2.
