 Math: Looking Closer at Hexagons
Honey the Hexagon will help the kids count the sides and vertices of a hexagon and add “hexagon” to the flat shapes poster. Next, we will review all of the flat shapes on the poster. (circle, triangle, square, & rectangle) The kids will expand their knowledge of hexagons by exploring with a game called Fill the Hexagon using pattern blocks. They will roll a cube that has the flat shapes drawn on it and whatever shape it lands on is placed inside the hexagon.
The kids will also get time to use Geoboards/Geobands to build shapes. (See photo below.)

Writer's Workshop: Narratives Can Have a Hook
We want to grab the reader's attention in a story. The poster below shows ways to do that.
Handwriting: Three Letter Words & Simple Sentence
Image result for kindermath Math: Taking a Closer Look at Square and Rectangle
We will focus on rectangles and squares in the story, Circus Shapes by Stuart Murphy. The kids will focus on the number of sides and vertices of each and help me count the them. We will look closely at rectangles and squares to focus on the fact that a square has four equal sides and a rectangle has 2 long and 2 short sides. Next, the kids look closely at the faces of the solid shapes and notice the circle base of the cylinder, cone, and square base of a cube. They will have time to explore finding the flat shapes within the solid shapes. Lastly, the kids will lay their solid shapes flat and then trace around them. Once they lift up the solid shape, they will discover a flat shape.
