 Math: Combining Sets to 5
We begin a new unit today, Addition to 10. For these beginning lessons, the kids will be working on combining sets, but each day we will just work to a specific total. Today and tomorrow the kids will work on combinations to 5. The kids will NOT be expected or asked to use symbols (=, +) to represent their thinking. We will use hula hoops & string to create a part-part-whole template. (See the image below.) The kids will stand in the hula hoops to find out how many in all.
4 monkeys were on the bed (part) and 1 monkey on the floor (part). How many monkeys in all? 5 (whole)

The eggs have cracked!
This means the kids sat on their egg successfully to "incubate" it! If they are successful at staying on their egg yet today, the eggs may hatch tomorrow...Watch for a photo tomorrow to see!

   Writer's Workshop: Mechanics
Mechanics fix things. So today, we are going to make sure to fix any writing that may need spacing, punctuation, or capital letters put in the wrong places.

Math: Combining Sets Up to 20
We will again be focusing on combining sets but this time to 20. Again, this is not a 'true' addition lesson but rather getting the kiddos to become confident in combining two sets of objects for a total or 'in all'. We will also work on counting on to combine. We want to teach them the importance and reason behind counting on, especially with larger numbers. For example...
How many brown dogs? (11) How many black dogs? (4) How many dogs in all?
*Count on from 11...*11*, 12, 13, 14, 15.  There are 15 dogs in all.

Your child will be 'hatching' an egg over the next two days. They will sit on their egg to 'incubate' it so something will hatch on Thursday. If they are successful at staying on their egg, it might have a crack in it tomorrow!

Math: Combining Sets up to 10
This lesson builds the foundation of combining sets (addition). We won't be using any addition symbols in this lesson but the kids will be working together to combine simple sets.
EX: 3 bears and 4 apples make 7 in all.  5 bears and 3 blocks make 8 in all.
**Zero the Hero is here today...Day 130!
Library Day
Applications are now being taken for the Easter Bunny. The kids will be writing their responses today and attach this application to bunny faces they are making.

Kindermath: Find Differences of Sets to 10...Take Two (Did not get to this lesson yesterday.)
In today’s lesson the kids will be going further than simply comparing two sets as more or less. They will be working on stating how many the difference between two sets is. For this activity, each pair will need two sets of number cards 1-10 and 20 snap cubes. Each partner will pull a card and build that amount of cubes. Students will then “make friends” with their cubes so they can easily see how many more/fewer. Again, the kids will focus on stating the amount that the difference is.
