Sight Word Focus: what
Phonemic Awareness: Generate Rhyming Words
Beginning Blends: cl (clip, claw, clam etc.)
Writer's Workshop: Adding in Adjectives
This lesson introduces the kids to adjectives...words that make stories fun and exciting. For instance, "I see the green and fuzzy worm."
The children will hear the story, Hairy, Scary, Ordinary by Brian Cleary. This is a fun book that will teach them a lot of new adjectives. After I model my story using a couple of adjectives, the kids will work on their own writing.

Math: Compare Numbers to 10
First, the kids will be reviewing the comparison of numbers to 10 by working with sets of images, sounds, and numerals to 10. Next, I will read How Many Snails? A Counting Book by Paul Giganti and ask questions like these...Are there more grey clouds or white clouds? Are there fewer big clouds or little clouds?”
Are there fewer yellow or pink flowers? More black centered flowers or yellow? Are there more fish with their mouths open or shut? etc.
Last, the kids will be able to explore sets of sounds in order to compare both by closing their eyes as I give two sets of sounds. They will tell me if they hear more claps vs.stomps, knocks vs.clanks, beeps vs.honks, etc. This allows children to realize we use comparison in our lives everyday, and it’s not solely dependent on numerals.
