              Kindermath: About 17

 The kids will work with their partners to fill a teen number ten frame board to represent a teen number. I will show the number 17 and the kids fill their ten frame board to match. I will do this with the numbers 11-17. Next, the kids will show their partner a hide ten card set and their partner will state what they see...“10 and 5, 15!”

Finally, the kids will be using the teen number “and some” cards to quiz their partners.

In addition to doing activities about 16, the kids will draw and label a set of ten and some more to the following word problems:

I see 10 red cards and 5 black cars. 

I have 10 dolls and 2 babies.

I saw 10 snakes and 4 lizards.

My mom has 10 shirts and 6 shoes.

We will focus on the vocabulary words within the story (barb, coast, colony, equator, webbed, marine animal).

Phonics: Manipulate Beginning Sounds
box-fox, top-pop, etc.

~A wide variety of new activities are now available for the kids to choose from. It's fu to see how excited they get about something new.

KinderLiteracy: Penguins

The kids will listen to Penguins by Anne Schreiber for enjoyment and build an interest in the topic and expand their prior knowledge of what the penguins are.

The comprehension strategy worked on this week is Inferring/Connections.

Rekenreks help children see combinations to 10 and allows them to show teen numbers quickly through a multi-sensory approach.

It's good to be back so out with the old and in with the new...

~Our classroom has a new arrangement.
~There are new jobs available for 'Literacy Job' time.
~New markers and crayons!
~A new play area: Vet Clinic (Opening for business tomorrow.)

We will discuss what resolutions are and with guidance, your child will write a few of their own.

     Kindermath: About Number 14

We will look closely at how to build 14 the '10' way. Again, the teen numbers can be tricky so building on the understanding of what one group of ten is, we can make a teen number by counting on some more.

Project: New Year's Resolution Wand

~ Lunch in our classroom will be on tomorrow! 😄 

~Riding on the Polar Express with their ticket in hand...They were such respectful passengers and had lots of fun!

~This was my favorite part of the day and I am quite certain it was for the kiddos as well!
I sure hope lots of snuggles happened over break!
