 A storybook reader is scheduled for 10:10 to read Merry Christmas Splat.
 DAILY 5: I will introduce 'Read to Someone' today. Partners read to one another from books we have done in Book Club. This is the last component of DAILY 5. Again, the other components are:
~Word Work
~Work on Writing
~Listen to Reading
~Read to Self

Math: Measuring Different Shoe Lengths
The kids are measuring the length of their classmates' shoes using connecting cubes as the nonstandard units of measurement.
Their work focuses on:
~Recording measurements with pictures, numbers, and/or words.
~Repeating multiple nonstandard units (connecting cubes) to quantify length.
~Developing strategies for measuring the length of an object.

Smart Room Highlight: We have two tracks down now. (I don't have an updated photo but wanted to refresh your memory as to what a Creep Track is.) One track has simple sentences in it and the other has Ten Frames.

Reindeer Games!
Let the fun begin!  Starting at 9:00, the kids will travel to each of the Kindergarten rooms to join in a reindeer "game".
9:00- Reindeer Songs, Stories, and Movement with Mrs. Jost
9:20- Reindeer Craft and Making Reindeer Food with Miss Poppen
9:40-Making AND eating Reindeer Bread with Me
10:15- It looks like we may be given the green light to do reindeer races throughout the halls of the elementary! Look out MLE...here we come!
Santa is scheduled to visit our classroom from 2:00-2:30 today. 
Library Day!
 
We have been enjoying unwrapping a holiday book each day this week to add to our classroom library. We will continue to do this all the way to holiday break.
Project: Gingerbread Boy & Girl...the boy or girl will be coming home today to spend the weekend with you! Please fill out the sheet that will come home and return on Monday.

~Have your child wear their exercise clothes on Monday...Wellness Wednesday has been moved!

Phonological Awareness: Segment Words by Syllables: After singing The Itsy-Bitsy Spider a few times, we will replace the words itsy-bitsy with claps. This helps the kids 'feel' the syllables. 

 Language Arts: Using the Reader's Theater story We Like Fruit, the kids will echo-read to build fluency and comprehension through retelling.

Today's lesson is called Measuring Our Shoes. The kids will be using connecting cubes to measure the length of their own shoe. Their work focuses on:

~Repeating multiple nonstandard units (connecting cubes) to quantify length.
~Developing strategies for measuring the length of an object.

Smart Room Highlight: Tracking the Holiday Lights (colored dots on a stick)
Holding the stick in front of you, start on the left side while not moving your head to look at each colored dot. Only move your eyes!
